but as a friend and i think many of us who are active in public life knew her. she would be dearly missed by many of us here at city hall. i have one additional item. today i will be introducing a supplemental appropriations for domestic violence. recent data has shown that the demand for city departments and our nonprofits for domestic violence assistance has increased significantly, steadily, while funding for such services has stayed at best flat or decreased. in the most recent report on domestic violence put out by our city over the last one year period documented by that report we have seen as a city 47% more calls to domestic violence hot lines, 29% more beds needed at shelters, 17% more convicted batters by our adult probation and 200% increase in child support cases involving family violence. within our district attorney's office the numbers are more severe. increase in the number of cases an extremely underresourced case load. over the last two year period, the case load per month has increased double. the number of trials that have been prosecuted have increased by a third. the san fra

we have in the city. >> [tkpwao-frplt/] this legislation will help me because when you write, it will help me explain to her what she needs to do. bed bugs can happen to the cleanest people. i have tried to complain a visitor could have brought it in, but she can't understand. she is assuming if she reports it to her landlord she could get evicted or lose all of her stuff and all of those things, also make it difficult for me to try to solve the problem. i have virtually no authority with her landlord to solve the problem. and so a list of things that spell out what everybody needs to do would greatly help, i believe, me, even other individuals who are trying to help people who have the problem. so i thank you very much. >> thank you. is there any other public comment on this item? seeing none, public comment is now closed . >> well, i understand the legislation, but i just feel it's not quite ready yet. see, the problem is that i just feel if you have a owner operator that doesn't want to comply with this. the way i see how this system works, it might take a year for some

've been fortunate to know mara rosales for close to 15 years. it would be difficult for the city to find anyone better who bears the title she will bear. her personal convictions are taylor made to help steer this agency in the projects for which they will have jurisdiction to a new paradigm of possibility. mara rosalales will steer the board to new possibilities and i ask the board's support for all the candidates, they were quite impressive. >> i'm mary franklin in district 10, founder of the environmental justice movement, inc.. i want to also commend the commissioners who were appointed to the commission initiative and i have to say i would never have thought i would see the changing of the guards. i want to pay homage to mr. leroy king and congratulations commissioner singh for being able to stay on that commission. what i have to say to the newly elected individuals, i want to leave one term to you, disposition agreement. i hope this new commission initiative coalition of individuals will not be guilty of producing documents that are unenforcible or null and void. it's called

particularly for one person, who impressed me tremendously for her gutsy vote for sheriff ross mirkarimi to go back to work as sheriff of this city. christina olague, you were appointed into the position. you took a risk, and i admire you for your principle, rather than the political part of it. thank you very much. and i wish you all the very best. and i'm so glad i was here tonight because i heard a lot of wonderful things. i've never talked top pu i've never met you. i've never even crossed the aisle with you, you know, anywhere. so thank you so much. and i wish you all the very best. and supervisor kim, i was very much surprised. thank you for your vote. supervisor avalos and supervisor campos, i always thought, from the very beginning, because all we needed was just two supervisor votes, to bring him back as sheriff. thank you so very much. and i'm -- asked one of the sheriffs here this evening, i think he's gone now, how is sheriff ross mirkarimi's doing, and he said he's doing wonderfully. i am very happy to hear that. i wish him, his wife, and their son, all the very best. happy holida

in the city that have come forward to shed light on this issue. i also want to thank supervisor kim and her staff, who have been dealing with this issue from the moment that she got elected. and i think that this legislation is in many respects, you know, not the culmination, but it adds to the body of work that already has been done and we need to continue to monitor this. so i'm very proud to be a co-sponsor. i think it's one of those pieces of legislation that is truly a no-brainer and my hope is that it will go forward to the full board where in my hope there will be a unanimous vote to pass this legislation. and it's a long time coming and i also think that we need to make sure that we continue to monitor it closely. so i also want to say as the district 9 supervisor that i'm very grateful to the work of the people from my district, who have been fighting to eradicate bed bugs for a long time. and i like the slogan that was chanted out that, "bed bugs suck." [ laughter ] and i think that sedsays it all. thank you. >> thank you, supervisor campos. supervisor farrell. >> [ applause ]

by debate but this dashboard will be helpful in really giving us pinpoints as to where the city isaqj)e at in complying with our 2009 housing element. so i just want to thank supervisor olague for her work. this is something she has taken on since she was commissioner. i also want to recognize supervisor campos. we had called for a hearing on this very issue earlier this year and one of the recommendations that came out of this hearing was of course a dashboard to better understanding housing production needs at various income levels and to understand the source of funds available for affordable housing at the federal state and local level so we can begin to have a discussion about solutions on how to close this production gap. c, this dashboard will assist in helping us to prioritize funds that we just passed at the ballot and i want to appreciate our voters for passing both prop c andms( e. they will be incredibly important in serving as a source of funding for affordable housing in san francisco. >> president chiu: supervisor campos. >> supervisor campos: thank you, mr. president

very much, mr. president. i do want to thank supervisor kim and her staff, who have been working on this for quite some time. i also want to thank the members of the community who have also been advocating for the city, providing additional funding to the school district. you know, i've said this many times before, you know, that i do believe that we, as city government, have an obligation to support our public schools because we do have a situation where our federal government and our state government are failing our kids. they are not providing the level of funding that is needed for us to have the kind of world-class public school system that our children deserve. and in san francisco, a city of great affluence to the extent that the federal and state governments are not stepping up to the plate, we have historically, as city government, done that, and that's why we have created things like the rainy day fund and prop h. this has been very clear from the beginning. but one thing that i did raise last time, and i want to make sure that on the record i get some assurances on, is
